Meet Luna and Jade

Our young peacock Jamie had been alone since Christmas, when a fox took his girl, Aurelia. Very sad.

Finally, after much searching we recently found two more girls, so yesterday I went to pick them up. They are about 4 months old so still only babies, same age as Jamie was when we got him last year.

Was it love at first sight? Not sure but Jamie was certainly pleased to see some of his kind again! Little Luna (Italian for moon, as she has some white on her flight feathers) and Jade also seem reassured by his presence and keep calling out to him. I suspect if I let them out they might just follow him around everywhere, but I'd rather not risk it, so they'll have to be locked up for a few weeks until they get to know us and the place a bit better.

In the meantime, Jamie is spending a lot of time near them and the chickens are giving them a good check out too. Luna was raised by a chicken hen, so I hope that having chooks around will make her feel a bit more at home.

By this evening they were already looking much more relaxed and were very interested when we brought them a treat of cheese... Hopefully we'll soon come to associate us with good things.

Stay tuned to see how they settle in over the next few weeks and if they decide to stay at Tatum Hills when we set them free...
